Valerie Long, Ph.D.

Valerie Long founded the female vocal ensemble Les Ms. in 1999. Born and educated in Newfoundland, Valerie holds undergraduate degrees in Music and Music Education from Memorial University of Newfoundland. She has also received a Masters of Music in Choral Music Education and a Doctor of Philosophy in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Valerie's extensive experience as an educator includes instruction in classroom, choral and instrumental music from Kindergarten through high school and university. She has performed the roles of music director and pianist for numerous musical theatre productions and has earned a reputation for being an engaging and highly respected adjudicator, clinician, guest conductor and performer.

Valerie also directs the 100-voice Holy Heart of Mary Alumnae Choir who will be embarking on a 14-day performance/cultural tour of Europe in the summer of 2008.
